PALS Class Requirements (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
*Please carefully review this list of mandatory class requirements *After reviewing this list, click on the link on the bottom of this page to complete registration *Please note - certification cards will not be issued if class requirements are not met
REQUIRED for both PALS initial / full classes and PALS renewals: 1) A current AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers certification card to bring to class
Student must present a current BLS card at the time of class
Only BLS cards issued by American Heart Association (AHA) will be accepted
Card must still be current (not expired) on the day of class
2) A current AHA (2011 version) PALS Provider Manual
Must be the current (2011) version
Must be by the American Heart Association (AHA)
Manuals may be borrowed or purchased from us or another distributor
3) Pretest completed prior to class and bring printout of results
Students will find instructions on how to access the pretest / precourse assessment in the 2011 version of the AHA's PALS Provider Manual
Once completed, the pretest results must be printed out and brought to class
4) Review the "Core Cases" in the PALS Provider Manual
PALS maybe difficult to pass without studying the material prior to the class
Once you have registered and paid for a PALS course with us, we will e-mail you an PALS study guide, which helps students to know what areas need to be focused on while preparing for class
5) Cardiac rhythm recognition
PALS students are expected to be familiar with cardiac rhythm reading, and able to identify the following rhythms: NSR, SB, ST, SVT, VF, VT, PEA, and asystole. PALS students are not expected to interpret a 12 lead EKG.
PALS class DOES NOT TEACH cardiac rhythm interpretation - PALS students who cannot identify these listed rhythms will have a very difficult time passing the PALS class
If you do not know the rhythms, or need help identifying the rhythms required for PALS, we strongly suggest attending a rhythm interpretation class prior to PALS - Click here to register for our Basic EKG Rhythm Interpretation & Pharmacology (ACLS prep) - it is a 4 hour course at our Conway Rd location, held every other Sunday 1pm- 5pm (beginning 11/06/11). Though the basic rhythm course is geared more toward adults, it will benefit PALS students with recognition of heart rhythms that might be seen in any adult or child.
6) Renewal students only - current AHA PALS certification card to bring to class
Student must present a current PALS card at the time of class
Only PALS cards issued by American Heart Association (AHA) will be accepted
Card must still be current (not expired) on the day of class
If PALS card is expired, student must take the full course (AHA requirement)
